Who Can Apply?

Art Avene welcomes proposals by Artists working in many fields of creative endeavour. The gallery is accepting all media submissions for group and solo shows . These fields broadly include visual arts, new media, design, jewellery & craft.
Art Avenue welcomes proposals by emerging and established practitioners. Preference is given to artists with an exhibition history and/or a post graduate degree.
Art Avenue does not exhibit work by current undergraduate students. However Graduate exhibitions will be considered. The gallery selects proposals with a view to programming a quality calender of events.

Application Format.

1. One Page: Proposal Cover Page must include:

* Main contact person and contact details.
* Names of all applicants if a group show is being proposed.
* Preferred exhibition times (eg Feb-March or Oct-Nov)
* A very short (two sentence) summary description of your proposal.

2. One Page: Description of the exhibition and the work you wish to exhibit (No more than one A4 page). Following are some points that contribute to clear and informative proposals.

* Do not bind your application in any way.
* Keep your application brief..
* The description of work may take the form of What, Why, Where, How * Proposals for group shows or collaborations are only likely to be successful --if they contain a clear rationale relating the works of participants together.

3. Include photographic or digital documentation (Do not send originals). The quality of your support material is important. It is preferable if the support material relates directly to your exhibition description. However, material that clearly indicates your ideas and work approaches is adequate. Minimum 10 images for a solo show, maximum 24 for a group show. Digital images: Please provide in jpeg format. Do not duplicate the same material in two different formats. You may add a small amount of other support material, such as past publications, invitations, exhibition reviews etc. Upstairs Flinders will take all reasonable care in handling support material but we cannot accept responsibility for its loss or damage. We cannot guarantee the return of unidentified material.

4. Selected curriculum vitae.

5. Description of any special requirements, which may alter the gallery space,(eg. plinths, painting, electrical).

6. A $35.00 non refundable application fee is required with the aplacation. Please include a sufficiently stamped, sufficiently sized self-addressed envelope for return of support material. We are unable to return support material if you provide an envelope with insufficient postage, or of the wrong size

Terms and Conditions

Gallery hours during shows are: Sunday to Saturday from 10am to 9pm during shows

Artists are expected to sit their own exhibitions or to organise an alternative, unless they opt for the payment of gallery staffing.If desired a trained gallery staff member can be on hand for the duration of your exhibition for assistance with sales. Staff per week $600 optional.

The works will need to be hung on the day preceding the opening. Openings are to be on a Thursday night 5.30 – 7.30pm for week end shows and Monday 5.30 to 7 30 for weekday shows. Costs for the opening night such as drinks and staff are to be covered by the exhibiting artist. (Glasses are supplied). All other costs such as postage, printing, advertising, insurance and freight are also to be covered by the exhibiting artist.
Gallery is to be vacated in the same state as of commencement of exhibition or cleaning fee will apply.

Set-up & Take down: Exhibitors install their own exhibition with some help provided by Art Avenue You may hang your work a day prior to your opening. You must, as well, have all work installed with appropriate labeling, show title, and any other information for patrons and gallery staff . We allow takedown of your show between 5:00 PM and 8 PM on the closing day.

Weekdays exhibition $450.00
Gallery available from Monday morning at 10am to Thursday noon.
- Set up Monday,11am to 4pm. Show may start on same day at 6pm
-Exhibition hours 11am to 9pm
- Tear down Thursday, 10am to noon.
No commission on sales.Artists provide their own mailing and reception.

Weekend exhibition available $650.00

Rental fee payable at time of booking.

One week exhibition 1150

Included in this cost is:
Media release advice and service.
Advice for invitation and advertising design.
Text and image included on our web site. Advertizing in slate Magazine (optional)
The gallery staff can advise with the curating and hanging of the works.
We will also provide you with a discretionary mail-out service to select clientele

Two weeks exhibition $2200

Included in this cost is:
Media release advice and service.
Advice for invitation and advertising design.
Text and image included on our web site.
Advertising in Slate Art guide web site and magazine
The gallery staff can advise with the curating and hanging of the works.
We will also provide you with a discretionary mail-out service to select clientele

No commission on sales.Artists provide their own mailing and reception.

Note: A non refundable$ 175 deposit is required a t the time of booking.
A bond of $500 applies. This will be returned in full upon vacation of the premises
